CMS Clinker Sdn Bhd is Sarawak's sole clinker manufacturer and trader. The operations consist primarily of limestone quarrying, a raw mill for grinding, coal grinding and kiln burning. CMS Clinker plant is located in Mambong, some 21 km from Kuching, Sarawak. As of 30 November 2007, CMS Clinker is 100 percent owned by CMS Cement Sdn Bhd, which is part of the Cahya Mata Sarawak Group of companies.

COMPANY HISTORY

Cahya Mata Sarawak's cement manufacturing arm, CMS Cement Sdn Bhd, acquired the clinker plant on 30 November 2007. Formerly known as Sarawak Clinker Sdn Bhd, the Company name was subsequently changed to CMS Clinker Sdn Bhd in January 2008.

Initially, the Company was owned by Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and in 1992 was transferred to Landstone Investment Co. Ltd., owned by Indonesian Group of Companies.

August 1996 saw the commissioning of the clinker manufacturing plant. In October 2004, the plant was sold to Premier Capital Ventures Corporation from the Philippines. During this period, the plant was upgraded from a capacity of 2,000 Metric Tonnes per day (600,000 MT per annum) to 2,400 Metric Tonnes per day (720,000 MT per annum).

LOCALITY PLAN

CMS Clinker is situated in the southeast of Kuching City in Mambong, located 28 kilometres from the city centre and accessible via two major road networks. Road conditions are excellent and well paved. The first road network links Jalan Mambong from the upgraded Jalan Borneo Heights, which offers convenient access to other satellite towns along this road stretch. The second road network is the Kuching Outer Ring Road, an expressway which also serves as the delivery route that transports clinker between CMS Clinker and the Kuching Plant of CMS Cement, located in Pending. The commute is 40 minutes each way.

PLANT LAYOUT

CMS Clinker Plant occupies 24.8 hectares of Industrial land in Mambong. This excludes a separate 78 hectares of neighbouring quarry concessions. The Plant consists of 17 stations of buildings, with proper drainage, access roads, and fire hydrants being installed. All of these facilities comply with the relevant authorities' standards and requirements and are maintained on par with national safety and health standards. CMS Clinker's health and safety practices form a vital component of the working environment to enhance the high productivity of CMS Clinker's multi-skilled workforce.
