19 August 2017 – Seventeen CMS Group Procurement employees participated in the Mangrove Tree Planting organised by Fuji Xerox Malaysia at Kuching Wetlands, RAMSAR Site, Kuching. Located 15km from Kuching City Centre, the RAMSAR Site covers an area of 6,610 hectares comprising of a saltwater mangrove system. The RAMSAR Site is a natural habitat to a wide diversity of wildlife which includes proboscis monkeys, long tailed macaque monkeys, silver-leaf monkeys, monitor lizards, estuarine crocodiles and a range of birdlife, including kingfishers, white-bellied sea eagles and shore birds, including the rare lesser adjutant stork.
Two boats took participants to and fro Samariang Batu Jetty and the planting site – a journey which took them about 10 minutes. Upon arrival, the Forest Officer briefed everyone on some crucial information and history of the RAMSAR Site and other safety measures to be taken before planting started.
More than a thousand mangrove trees were planted that day! With environmental issues such as global warming, deforestation and pollution that are affecting our eco-system, this event represents a small step towards tackling these issues.
Thanks to Fuji Xerox for organising this amazing event. At CMS, we are committed to this project with our very own mangrove tree planting with the Forest Department of Sarawak on 18 November 2017.
