First Habitat Home-build for 2011
First Habitat Home-build for 2011 The atmosphere at the site of the first CMS-Habitat home-build for the year was filled with much enthusiasm last Saturday, 30 April 2011. Fourteen of our CMS colleagues from Centre Management, Property Development SBU and CMS Concrete Products set out to Kampung Semeba on the outskirts of Kuching early that morning to ‘Do Good’ for a Bidayuh family to help complete their 3-bedroom house. Another fourteen colleagues from CMS Clinker joined that afternoon to continue the works. Teamwork was clearly shown amongst our CMS volunteers. The CMS Property Development ladies, Evelyn, Amidah and Min Ching, were engrossed in installing the lock on the back door. Well done ladies! At the same time, the guys were seen busy installing the door and lock at the front. After a few attempts, the door was up and swinging!
The rest of the Clinker boys were at the backyard digging a pit for installation of a septic tank. In the meantime, Jocelyn, Lam Shan Kong and John Lim took to plastering the outside pillars together with George Wong who is still recovering from a shoulder injury. It is admirable to know that a shoulder injury did not dampen George’s spirit to ‘Do Good’ and give a helping hand!
The home-owner is 46-year old Juar Anak Nios, a general worker at Sarawak General Hospital. His wife, Margaret, is a home-maker and together with their four children, the family is presently squatting at his in-laws’ overcrowded house nearby. The couple struggles to provide for the family especially their three school-going sons.
The ‘CMS Doing Good’ spirit was evident in everyone there that day. The high employee-volunteerism spirit by CMS is much appreciated by the less fortunate and by Habitat-for-Humanity. It is also much appreciated by the many staff who take part in this popular activity. They come from across the whole of CMS group, to work as a team towards a common goal to help the needy community around us.
If you are keen to volunteer just like so many others, slots are still available for home-builds in September and October. Book your space early. Registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Log on to the Intranet for more details.
