15 September 2018 – On Malaysia Day, 53 volunteers from Kuching Toastmasters Club, corporate partners, friends and family spent their time mentoring as facilitators to 175 students from 23 schools in Kuching, Bau and Kota Samarahan at the 7th Kuching Toastmasters Youth Communication Camp held at Kem Juara, Serian. The 3-day programme included the presentation on public speaking, as well as the composition and delivery of speeches.
Through practice and rehearsal, the students competed in the Impromptu Speech and Prepared Speech Contests to demonstrate the knowledge and skill they have gained from the Camp. Besides learning and practising, there were many fun team-building and leadership activities such as a night walk through the forest, overcoming the challenges on the obstacle course and a chance to showcase their creativity and talents at Oscar Night.
Since the formation of Kuching Toastmasters Youth Communication Camp in 2012, Cahya Mata Sarawak has been a supporter of the programme with a total sponsorship of RM89,500 to date. In 2017, as part of our community outreach ‘Doing Good’ programme that inculcate volunteerism amongst its employees, CMS has sent a few employees to volunteer as facilitators.
