“You Are Our Strength” – Syed Ahmad Tells Loh & Loh Team

Tuesday, 4 November 2008, Kuala Lumpur – “You are our strength”, said Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree, to the 150 employees from Loh & Loh Corporation Berhad who attended the first company forum held following the acquisition of Loh & Loh by UBG Berhad.

Main Board-listed water infrastructure specialist, Loh & Loh, was acquired by UBG in mid-2008 as part of the overall corporate restructuring of UBG. As a result, UBG now holds 80.32% shareholding in Loh & Loh.

Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree is Loh & Loh's new Deputy Chairman, as well as Deputy Chairman of UBG Berhad.

Speaking at length to the Loh & Loh team on UBG's reasons for acquiring the company, on expectations and on future direction and strategies, Syed Ahmad summarized the new shareholders' commitment to Loh & Loh's future as “We want to make an already good company great.”

“We are not here to re-invent the wheel. Loh & Loh has had a long and successful history of achievements. The new Board's role and promise is to

enhance your strengths, so that together we can scale new heights and new horizons and make this company greater,” said Syed Ahmad .

He called on the Loh & Loh management team to practise strong leadership in these times of change and for its employees to continue delivering fine performance and high commitment. “Your success gives the new shareholders and Board of Directors much confidence in bidding for new jobs, in new sectors, and in new territories.”

Loh & Loh, based in Kuala Lumpur , will soon be opening up offices in Sarawak and Abu Dhabi in a bid to seek new business opportunities within the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and in the booming construction sector of the Middle East respectively.

Syed Ahmad also paid tribute to the strong leadership of Jason Loh, formerly Managing Director of Loh & Loh, who now assumes the new position of Chief Executive Officer following the acquisition by UBG.

“Honest, treats employees as friends and careful with expenses - these are qualities which Loh & Loh employees describe of their leader, Jason Loh. These are certainly the core attributes of a fine leader, and one that this company will continue to count on as we move forward into the future.”

A lively Question & Answer session between employees and Loh & Loh's new Board of Directors followed Syed Ahmad 's presentation on future directions. Questions asked included opportunities for employee share options, future ways of working and administrative processes, and new business strategies.

Loh & Loh's new Chairperson, YAM Tengku Dato' Rahimah Sultan Mahmud, had earlier addressed the team at the company forum. She urged employees to adopt and embrace new ideas, latest technology and new management systems, so that Loh & Loh can further add value in the things it does in the journey as the company transforms in a changing and challenging economic environment.

UBG Chairman, Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, also attended the company forum, along with other members of the new Loh & Loh Board of Directors.


CMS Group Deputy Chairman Honoured By Sarawak State

Saturday, 25 October 2008, Kuching: CMS Group Deputy Chairman, Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, was honoured by the Sarawak State Government as the sole recipient of the prestigious “Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak (PNBS)” award in conjunction with the 87 th birthday of the Governor of Sarawak today. The award carries the title “Dato Sri”.

The ceremony in which Sarawak 's Head of State, Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin, presented the new Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib with his award was held in Kuching earlier today. The event was attended by the Sarawak Chief Minister and local dignitaries.

Dato Sri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, aged 44

years, has been a Board Member of CMS since 1995. Instrumental in the founding of Sarawak 's first stock-broking company, Dato Sri Mahmud has also played a pivotal role in the construction and construction materials operations of CMS. He assumed the position of Group Deputy Chairman of CMS in 2002.

More recently, Dato Sri Mahmud was appointed as Group Chairman of UBG Berhad where he plays an active role in the evolution of the former financial services group into a diversified group of companies. UBG is today pursuing new business interests both in Sarawak and beyond. These include potential deals in Peninsula Malaysia and the Middle East .


UBG ACQUIRES ROAD MAINTENANCE COMPANY & PAVEMENT TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS

22 July 2008, Kuching: The new construction arm of UBG Berhad (formerly known as Utama Banking Group Berhad) has begun to take form with a few major developments.

On 2 July 2008, UBG sealed the deal on its acquisition of CMS Roads Sdn Bhd and CMS Pavement Tech Sdn Bhd.

In one fell swoop, UBG has injected into its business Sarawak’s most prominent road maintenance company - CMS Roads - and road rehabilitation and construction technology specialist - CMS Pavement Tech.

The disposal of CMS Roads and CMS Pavement by PPES Works (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd to UBG Berhad was announced to Bursa Malaysia on 2 July 2008.

UBG first declared its intention to acquire the two companies on 1 February 2008.

Also related is UBG’s announcement made Bursa Malaysia on 18 July 2008 on the conditional take-over offers made for Putrajaya Perdana Bhd (PPB) and Loh & Loh Corporation Bhd.

As part of the corporate exercise to acquire major shareholding of the two listed entities, UBG is obliged to extend a General Offer (GO) for the remaining shares in PPB and Loh & Loh which are already not held by UBG. The offers are made at a cash consideration of RM4.85 per share.
